48-Hour Writing Challenge!
About the Challenge.
The 48-Hour Writing Challenge was cooked up by myself(Naomi) and a few followers of COBG. It started as a joke and quickly became serious.
This is a beta challenge. COBG deals a lot with writing and this challenge is to get you to focus. It’s so that we can just write straight through and get some traction on our stories, books, etc.
If this weekend is successful, we’ll plan an even bigger writing challenge and maybe even a contest!
1. The actual writing must begin no earlier than 12:01 a.m. (your time zone), on the Saturday, and must stop by 11:59 p.m. (your time zone) on the Sunday.
2. This is a 3,000 word challenge. There are no restrictions on what you can write as long as it’s 3k words or more.
Novels (brand new or continuing work)
Genres: ALL Genres (including nonfiction, Fan fiction)
3. You are allowed three 20 minute breaks, two 30 minute meal breaks and you are allowed to sleep, although you may write all the way through if you would like.
COBG Writing Challenge comes with a forum. Feel free to talk about your projects, get motivation, and support. Use the Forum to commit to the challenge. Let everyone know your name (or username), what your project is about and what you hope to accomplish.
Here’s a direct link to the forum. There is also a link on COBG’s blog sidebar!
COBG members. Feel free to send us messages through out the weekend. I, Naomi, will be available to give writing tips, maybe hook up two writers who need to discuss their projects, etc. Rachel and myself will be constantly online, checking and giving everyone the help that they need..(while writing our own projects, but I will sleep!)
Here are some sites that should get you started and help you during the weekend.
This looks AWESOME!!!
Who’s up for a challenge?
Absolutely beautiful shelves by Brianne from Effingham, Il!!
Thank you so much for your awesome submission, Brianne!
Find her on tumblr here.
I want to see just how much you guys love reading!
I will be hosting this until November 1st.
So, here’s what’s up:
I never do any promos because this is a book/writing/reading/reviewing blog, but for the sake of this one little challenge, I will break this rule just this once.
I want to showcase you guys reading! Whoever sends me (by submitting or emailing my blog email address—confessionsofabookaddict[at]gmail[dot]com) creative pictures of books, pictures of yourselves reading, pictures of your bookcases/book collections—basically anything to do with books, will get a promo on my blog.
I will share your photograph here on the blog and give full credit to the original photographer by linking up whatever links you want me to show. You don’t have to be a member of Tumblr, just someone who loves to read and knows what my blog is about!
Please include your name and blog URL and any other important links when submitting and/or emailing a photograph.
I hope to see some awesome submissions!
Awesome? #books #goodreads #challenge
It doesn’t have to be artsy or anything, just a picture of a book you want to read.
Maybe label it: Bucket to-read list.
If you don’t have the book you want to read, then just use a picture from Goodreads, Amazon, google, etc.
I want to start doing this because we all live by the images we find via outside sources, specifically libraries, bookcases, and people reading—why not add in your own experiences into the world of books here on tumblr?
You can submit pictures via my blog here.
Or, just add the picture to your blog and tag it as #book bucket list.
I’m going to start doing this tonight, will you be participating?
How about you guys?
27.) Pick two songs that describe your character at two different points of their life, and explain why you chose them.
Wow… that’s incredibly hard… can’t I just say that maybe her life can’t be explained by music because then I would be giving too much away? In any case, it would be conflicted music with an edge of defiance.
26.) Second day of favorites! Favorite comfort food, favorite vice, favorite outfit, favorite hot drink, favorite time of year, and favorite holiday.
Favorite comfort food: Carrots
Favorite Vice: Her inability to care if she is in danger, as long as she figures out the truth.
Favorite outfit:…. she doesn’t have many choices. If you read my book, you’ll know what I mean ;)
Favorite hot drink: Tea, she loves herbal tea that her mom makes.
Favorite time of the year: When her parents get time off from the farm to spend time with her.
Favorite holiday: There aren’t really holidays in Abbie’s world, since the government discontinued all of the old world religions and such.
25.) Describe your character’s hands. Are they small, long, calloused, smooth, stubby?
Abbie’s hands are calloused, for sure. She’s worked at a farm for the greater part of her young life and even after, when everything changes, she has to work through everything to survive. Her hands will never be soft.
24.) What might your character’s ideal romantic partner be?
He needs to be caring, but not naive. He accepts her when others don’t, and makes her smile when everything suggests that smiling is the last thing she should be doing. He makes her laugh, is tall and gorgeous, but without being obnoxiously aware of his appearance. He needs to see through people’s faults, until he finds the core of their being.
He will be a protector, but keep his distance when she needs it. He understands that she has gotten into situations because of who and what she is, so he doesn’t act like an over-protective ass.
Basically, Abbie has found her ideal romantic partner and I tried very hard to avoid the cliches surrounding romance these days in YA.
I hope you guys like it when I eventually let the story out into the world. :)
23.) Is your character superstitious?
No. Abbie’s life is messy enough, it doesn’t need any more worries.
22.) If your character could time travel, where would they go?
Abby would probably go to before that one moment that she became utterly alone, just so she could protect those she loves. Or, to before the world changed forever so she could assist those who fought against the change.
21.) What would your character’s CUTIE MARK be?
I’m not quite sure what this means, but I will take a stab at what I THINK it means:
Abby’s “Cutie Mark” would be the tattoo she has on the back of her neck: it’s so much like everyone else’s, yet so different. It allows her to do things that people thought were extinct.
Gulp, that’s all I can say (and I might have said too much!)
20.) Does your character have any irrational fears?
Of course she does, she’s only Huma—err, scratch that last part. She’s afraid of being alone and distrusts those who have any association with the government of where she lives. She was once terrified of the things that roamed around in the dark, but she slowly became accustomed to having to deal with those spooks.
